Wrestling: Three Caldwell Wrestlers Advance to NJSIAA Wrestling Championship in Atlantic City


WEST ORANGE, NJ — James Caldwell High School (JCHS) wrestlers Gerald Jones, Christian Dalla Riva and John Murphy each earned a spot in the NJSIAA Wrestling Championship at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on March 3, 4 and 5. Each placed in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Region 3 Wrestling Tournament held at West Orange High School on Saturday.

Junior Gerald Jones fell to Rutherford senior Omar Abdelhamid, 7-0, in the 152-pound division, but placed second overall to earn himself a spot in the championship.

Senior Christian Dalla Riva placed third in the 182-pound division with a 6-2 decision over senior Kasson Quince-McGhee of Montclair.

Junior John Murphy fell to fourth place in the 285-pound division after falling to senior Kyriakos Kostidakis of Madison, 2-1, in the fight for third place. 

Freshman Alex Jones and junior Kyle Schaffer of Caldwell also had an impressive day, earning sixth place in the 132-pound and 170-pound divisions, respectively, but it was not enough to send them to this weekend’s championship.
