TAP OF West Essex is seeking Reporters!

Hi West Essex – right now we are looking for High School students who would like to report from sports events or school events (like plays, concerts, art shows) around the area. Many of us growing up (you can Google my classmates – now professional writers Rob Burnett, Jeff Bradley) spent our days volunteering for the town papers and the school publications. For me personally, I can tell you
this was an enormous help when I sat down for a college interview and I did go on to write for the college paper and loved it.

For high school students, we will contact their high school and see if we can work out a type of “extra credit” with their English program. At the very least we will make sure their teacher is aware of their participation.

The way it would work – the student would update our website with incoming live scores, or take photos from the event and I would assist them later in writing a full article. Speaking personally, this is a wonderful way to gain experience and it's also a lot of fun.

College student writers can report with us as interns and receive college credit.

Any adult with writing experience who is interested in a paid freelancing position with The Alternative Press of West Essex – please send me your resume and/or writing sample to CVCurley@TheAlternativePress.com

Some Like it Hot

“Oh boy!” exclaimed my husband. “There’s a hot sauce shop in town!”

We were away antiquing for the weekend in a quaint village populated by Bed and Breakfasts, art galleries, and apparently, a hot sauce shop. For my husband, this was like discovering that someone had bought you a lottery ticket and you won… if the lottery prize was a fireball that would ...

Going for Brass

I get all teary-eyed watching the Olympics on TV.  You  know, the human drama, the sacrifice, the dedication, the thrill of competition, the athletic lip sync murmur to the national anthem on the podium.

This year I discovered that there are many other Olympic champions besides the usual cadre of spring-wound gymnastic pixies and ferociously wedged, hairless swimmers ...
