Leonard Luciano, Essex County Freeholder, Allegedly Leaves Scene of Accident in Roseland

ROSELAND, NJ - Leonard Luciano, Democratic Essex County Freeholder and Newark Public schools Archive Librarian and a member of the Newark Teacher's Union allegedly left the scene of an accident early this morning, at 120 Harrison Avenue, in Roseland. He then apparently walked home to where he lives, about .5 miles away at his parents' home on Orton Road in West Caldwell

According to three sources, Luciano was traveling west along Harrison Avenue around 2:22am Thursday morning when he lost control of his vehicle, a red Jeep Liberty, and crossed over to the other side of the road. His car went through the bushes in front of the home, and ultimately hit a tree.

A Roseland Official has confirmed with West Essex TAP that Luciano crashed his car into a tree.

It is TAP's understanding that Luciano has not been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident.

According to Luciano's Freeholder Page:

     Leonard Luciano was sworn-in to fill an unexpired term as District IV Freeholder in August of 2011 and elected to his first full term in November of 2011.  Born in Livingston, he currently resides in West Caldwell.  Freeholder Luciano served as a Commissioner of the Essex County Utilities Authority from 2007-2011 overseeing solid waste removal and recycling throughout the county.  He has been employed by the Newark Public Schools since 2003 where he currently serves as a Library Media Specialist working with elementary school students from grades pre-kindergarten to fourth grade to improve their information literacy skills.  Freeholder Luciano was elected Vice President of the Newark Teachers Union Local 481 (AFT) AFL-CIO where he makes decisions on behalf of the membership in areas such as contract negotiations, tenure reform, professional development and school curriculum.  He earned his B.A. in Humanities from Montclair State University, his M.A. in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison State College, attained his New Jersey teaching certification through Rutgers University, and is currently working towards his Doctorate in Leadership & Administration at Seton Hall University.
