Emerge NJ to Host Women of Achievement Annual Fall Gala


WEST ORANGE, NJ - Emerge NJ is hosting its second Women of Achievement Fall Gala at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, on Oct. 12, 2017 at 7 p.m.

Emerge NJ is honoring Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver, potential next Lieutenant Governor; Tammy Murphy, potential first lady of the state; Marguerite Schaffer, Somerset Democrat Chair; Dr. Khyati Joshi, Co-Chair NJ State South Asian Caucus; and Patricia Medina Campos, President of LUPE PAC.

In five years, Emerge NJ’s has graduated 68, women, 12 have run for political office, and seven have been elected. The organization is proud that for the first time they have 15 alumnae on the ballot in 2017. This year’s gala will celebrate alumni, women running for elected office and their "Women of Achievement."

Emerge America has recently been selected by Hillary Clinton as one of five organizations for her Onward Together organization that supports the work organizations are doing to change the political landscape in the United States. Emerge NJ is one of 22 states operating in the US training women to run for public office. Nationally, they have graduated 2700 women and 80 percent have been elected to state and local office, BOE and US Congress.

I am standing in line at the checkout counter of our local grocery store.  An obviously perturbed woman and her young daughter are staring at my cart.  It contains twelve tubs of Edy’s Limited Edition Slow Churned Peppermint Ice Cream because I have just cleared out the entire freezer case.
