Born and raised in Orange, he settled in Roseland in 1963. During World War II, he served honorably in the US Navy. After the war, he began his career as a switchman for DL and W Railroad
in the Hoboken Railyard and held a variety of positions before retiring as a refrigeration technician for AT and T in Morristown. For some time, he worked as a welder in Greenland for ITT. Ben had a passion for car racing. He built and raced three quarter midget cars and enjoyed watching the Indianapolis 500. Ben was a longtime member of the Livingston Gospel Hall and active in his church community.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Ann Cappiello (Doney); devoted children, Sandra Nadeau and her husband Serge and Anthony R. Cappiello and his wife Catherine; cherished grandchildren, Eric (Mary), Megan (Anthony), Joshua, and Adam; loving great-grandchildren, Aidan, Anthony, Ryan, and Holden; dear siblings, Lydia Valvano and David Cappiello.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Livingston Gospel Hall, 405 E Mt Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039.
