WEST ESSEX, NJ — There were three new cases of COVID-19 across the West Essex Area on Wednesday, according to data released by Essex County.

Essex County reported 37 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, for a county-wide total of 18,787 cases of COVID-19. There have been 83,327 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,778 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.

New Jersey had 395 confirmed new infections as of the latest results on Tuesday, which brought the statewide total of cases to 171,667 since the start of the pandemic, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell below 1,000 as of late Sunday for the first time in more than three months. There were more than 8,000 coronavirus-related hospitalizations at the peak of the outbreak in April.
