LIVINGSTON, NJ — When Livingston’s new Container Store celebrates its Grand Opening Weekend beginning on Saturday morning, the retailer, which will be the third of its kind to open in New Jersey, will donate 10 percent of the weekend’s sales to the Zoological Society of New Jersey at the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo and will also choose a shopper every hour to receive a prize that could include a $1,000 elfa Space Makeover with installation.
Saturday will commence with a kickline performance by The Container Store (TCS) executives as a salute to their new Livingston employees, followed by the crowning of the Livingston Super Fan, who will receive VIP treatment that includes a special golden shopping cart, sash and crown, a goodie box filled with products, a $250 Store More Card and more. The Super Fan—who is chosen at each new TCS location based on entries explaining why he or she is worthy of the title—will be first in line for the opening.
On Thursday, TCS Livingston hosted a preview event for special guests that including the mayor and members of the township council, members of the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce and more.
According to new store trainer Sharona Di Costanzo, the team at TCS is enthusiastic about opening at the intersection of Route 10 and Eisenhower Parkway because it is an “A-plus location” surrounded by a high concentration of what TCS considers its typical client. With synergistic retailers like the recently opened Shake Shack and Starbucks as neighbors, Di Costanzo called the new strip of businesses a “one-stop-shop” for costumers.
“Our customer expects that high level of customer service and great-quality products, and we definitely have that in spades,” said Di Costanzo. “It’s our customer service that sets us apart from other retailers that you’re going to walk into: we have knowledgeable employees, we offer great services, we have an in-home designer, we have people who come out and organize you, we have a customer engagement program and I think we have everything for that customer that’s going to be shopping here.”
As a part of its grand opening celebration, TCS gave the Turtle Back Zoo an “organizational makeover” by providing customized storage at the zoo’s commissary, the touch tank and aquarium, the reptile holding area and the education storage bay as part of the franchise’s initiative to partner with a local nonprofit at the opening of each new location nationwide. Ten percent of the weekend’s sales will go toward the organization.
“We’re super excited because everyone loves the zoo and everyone is going to love The Container Store,” said Di Costanzo.
On behalf of the Zoological Society of New Jersey, Adam Kerins, executive director, said the society is thrilled to be partnering with The Container Store for its Grand Opening in Livingston.
“We are honored by their generous donation and commitment to investing in our zoo and conservation efforts,” said Kerins. “As a non-profit organization, we rely on the support of our community to further our initiatives. The Container Store has proven to be a dedicated partner and we look forward to building upon this relationship.”
