WEST CALDWELL, NJ — More than 80 members of the Caldwell-West Caldwell school community recently shared heartfelt messages to the seniors who are currently being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through a video tribute created by James Caldwell High School Vice Principal John Bertollo in their honor.
Two weeks ago, the coronavirus took the life of Grover Cleveland Middle School Principal Jim Brown, who served as principal when the current seniors were in their 7th and 8th grade years.
Pairing this loss with the tough realities that the seniors are currently facing—including family members being ill, not being able to see their friends every day, missing spring sports and possibly losing award ceremonies, prom and a traditional graduation ceremony—Bertollo said he "wanted to create something to celebrate our seniors and send positive vibes their way."
In addition to past and present administrators and faculty members, local dignitaries who contributed to the project also included Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Caldwell Mayor John Kelley, West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta, Jr., Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education President Marie Lanfrank and Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Heinegg.
