ROSELAND, NJ — Essex County is expanding its COVID-19 testing initiative to include satellite-testing sites throughout the county, including the first mobile testing site to be opened at Essex Golf Center (600 Eagle Rock Avenue) in Roseland with 200 appointments available beginning on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Satellite sites in Roseland, Cedar Grove and West Orange will offer saliva tests, while the Weequahic Park site will continue to offer nasal swab testing. Testing at the satellites is available to symptomatic as well as asymptomatic people.

“We applaud and thank the county executive for his foresight in the testing site program and the mobile testing initiative,” said Mayor James Spango. “We are thankful to have this opportunity where residents who want or need to be tested will have access to testing.”

Tests throughout the county will continue to be distributed by appointment only and are free to Essex County residents. Pre-registration can be filled out on Essex County’s COVID-19 hub at or by calling 973-324-9950.

“Unfortunately, Essex County leads the state in the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus,” said Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. “Our fight against this deadly disease is far from over, and we must remain vigilant and aggressive to combat it. Testing is a critical tool that will tell us exactly how widespread the virus is and who has been infected.

“Whether you are exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus or not, we encourage residents to make an appointment and get tested. We want to make it as easy as possible for Essex residents to have access to testing. The Weequahic site has been hugely successful, and offering other satellite testing sites will make getting tested more convenient.”

Freeholder President Brendan Gill added that the county’s primary focus during the pandemic has been to keep Essex County residents healthy and safe and that establishing theses COVID-19 Satellite Testing Sites is “an important step in protecting the health of our residents and our communities.”

“Widespread testing is crucial to stopping the spread of the virus, and our Satellite Testing sites will be of significant help in this regard,” he said. “I thank our county administration and our health professionals, for their hard work in implementing this latest COVID-19 testing initiative.”

Freeholder Vice President Wayne Richardson also noted that expanding testing capabilities within the county “is the proper course of action” and implored all residents to “take advantage of the Satellite Testing Sites to get themselves tested.”

Satellite testing will be held at the following locations:

  • Thursday, May 21, Essex Golf Center, 600 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland. 200 appointments will be available.
  • Tuesday, May 26, Essex County Public Works-Fleet Maintenance, 99 West Bradford Avenue, Cedar Grove. 200 appointments will be available.
  • Thursday, May 28, Essex County Richard J. Codey Arena, 560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange. 250 appointments will be available.

The Weequahic Park testing site is held from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, May 20 and 27; and Fridays, May 22 and 29. (No testing will be done on Memorial Day, May 25.)

Additional dates will be added at all locations in June.

Residents are encouraged to get retested if they have taken the swab or saliva tests 14 days ago or more and have received negative test results.
