WEST ESSEX AREA, NJ -- Six communites in western Essex County saw a cumulative increase of eight cases of COVID-19 as of 9 a.m. on Friday.
West Caldwell had 121 cases, an increase of one since late Thursday; Fairfield (+3) and Caldwell (+1) each had 74 cases; Roseland (+2) had 52 cases; North Caldwell (0) had 34 cases; and Essex Fells (+1) 16 cases.
While the increase in coronavirus cases in West Essex has slowed some in recent days, across Essex County, there have been 9,656 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Friday at 9 a.m. The county reports 677 deaths that have been associated with the coronavirus. In Essex County, 6,566 COVID-19 tests have come back negative.
Statewide, there is a total of 78,467 cases, an increase of 3,150 overnight, with the statewide death toll now at 3,840, an increase of 322 overnight, according to the State Department of Health. Statewide there have been 78,982 negative test results.
