WEST ESSEX AREA, NJ -- Six communities in western Essex County saw a cumulative increase of nine cases of COVID-19 as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
There were six additional cases in West Caldwell, bringing its updated total to 145. Caldwell had 88 cases, an increase of two since late Tuesday. Fairfield (+2) has 85 cases, and Roseland had 61 cases--no change from Tuesday. Essex Fells had 16 cases--also the same as Tuesday. And North Caldwell's total of 34 cases is one fewer than Tuesday.
The New Jersey Department of Health earlier this week released new statistical breakdowns of how many cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in each long-term health care facility in the state. The five long-term care facilities and assisted living residences in the six West Essex communities have accounted for 197 COVID-19 cases (about 46 percent of total cases in these towns) and 35 deaths related to the coronavirus as of Monday, April 20.
Across Essex County, there have been 11,305 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday at 9 a.m. The county reports 881 deaths that have been associated with the coronavirus. In Essex County, 8,341 COVID-19 tests have come back negative.
Statewide, there is a total of 95,865 cases, an increase of 3,478 overnight, with the statewide death toll now at 5,063, an increase of 310 overnight, according to the State Department of Health. Statewide there have been 95,794 negative test results.
