NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - Tyler Logan's 36-yard field goal in overtime gave West Essex a 23-20 victory over Newark West Side, which came into the game undefeated, on Friday night.
West Essex (7-2) rallied from a 20-12 deficit in the fourth quarter when Chris Bell scored on a 4-yard touchdown run and then tied the game, 20-20, with a two-point conversion run.
The Knights had taken a 6-0 lead in the first period on a 10-yard TD run by Giancarlo Farro. After West Side (8-1) tied the game, 6-6, West Essex went ahead in the second quarter, 12-6, on a 5-yard TD run by Bell.
West Side scored 14 points in the third quarter to take an eight-point lead. In overtime, the visiting team was held scoreless on its initial possession, setting up West Essex for its successful first OT possession. The Knights reached the 19-yard line and, on fourth down, Logan came on and split the uprights for the win.
