NORTH CALDWELL, NJ -- West Essex got out of the gate with a 10-point lead and went on to defeat Columbia, 51-35, in girls basketball on Tuesday.

Jessica Coia scored 15 points for West Essex (12-7), which outscored the Cougars, 13-6, in the fourth quarter to close out what was a nine-point game after three quarters.

Olivia Weiss finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Knights and Gianna Puorro handed out five assists. Shana Desir led Columbia (12-6) with 13 points, Bella Galatt scored nine and Maia Little netted eight.
