MILLBURN, NJ -- The West Essex girls soccer team's game against Millburn on Tuesday served as a benchmark for how far the Lady Knights have come since last year.
West Essex went on the road and defeated the Millers, 5-2, on Tuesday. Last season, Millburn defeated West Essex twice, although one of those losses was in overtime.
Emma Riberio scored one goal and assisted on another for West Essex (6-2), which had a 2-0 lead at halftime. Samantha Balzano, Molly Simon and Alex Sek also scored goals in the victory.
"Today the players worked hard from start to finish," West Essex head coach Robert Faggiani said. "With Millburn being in our conference, we knew it would be an important game for us. Millburn is a great team and always are a challenge when we play them."
Remi Goldstein, Faith Leu and Mia Saccone each provided an assist for the Lady Knights, who outshot Millburn, 10-7. Zoe Boggier made five saves in goal for West Essex.
"I am very proud of our players and how they played with and without the ball," Faggiani said. "We are looking forward to keeping this momentum as we continue to face other great programs during our season."
