WEST ORANGE, NJ -- West Orange police are investigating an accident Thursday afternoon that hospitalized two young children and a woman after a vehicle veered off the road and onto a sidewalk.
According to township spokesman Joe Fagan, at 3:46 p.m. Thursday, a vehicle traveling west on Eagle Rock Avenue at the intersection of Forest Avenue left the roadway, striking pedestrians on the corner of Forest Avenue.
A woman with a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old in a stroller all were struck. The 2-year-old was in and out of consciousness and the mother and 5-year-old had minor injuries.
According to police, the driver may have experienced a medical episode contributing to the crash. But, because the investigation is active and ongoing, police say no formal conclusions have been reached.
All three victims and the driver were treated at local hospitals for what authorities described as “non-life threatening injuries.”
