NEWARK, NJ – An Orange resident died in the vicinity of a West Orange bar on Wednesday, possibly as a result of injuries sustained in an altercation.
The West Orange Police Department is working in conjunction with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force to investigate an incident in which a 57-year-old male died at a bar in West Orange on Wednesday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and West Orange Police Chief James Abbott. The man has been identified as Luis Alberto Bruzzon-Villanueva of Orange.
West Orange police officers were dispatched to a bar on White Street shortly after 6 p.m. on a report of an unconscious male, who they located on the sidewalk. According to the prosecutor’s office, the unresponsive male was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
The investigation indicates that Bruzzon-Villanueva was involved in an altercation in the bar, but it is unclear at this time how the man was injured. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing, according to Fennelly.
