WEST ORANGE, NJ - After much speculation around town, it's official: Chipotle is coming to West Orange.

The Planning Board approved the Technical Site Plan on July 9 for Chipotle Mexican Grill of Colorado, LLC, to renovate the interior for leased retail space for a restaurant at 235 Prospect Avenue.

Wendy's closed about a year ago and there was speculation as to who would take over the location. Chipotle has been in operation since 1993 in the United States, the U.K., Canada and France. They specialize in burritos and tacos, but also have salads and are known for their use of organic foods and naturally raised meat.

Chipotle was founded by Steve Ellis and opened with 16 restaurants in Colorado.  From 1998-2006, McDonald's invested in the chain, which had grown to about 500 restaurants.

It is not yet known when the new West Orange Chipotle will open, but we'll keep you posted.
