CALDWELL, NJ — The topic of “Wine Collection Valuation in Litigation” drew local attorneys, bankers and CPA’s to the Essex County Bar Foundation’s Wine Tasting and CLE Program at Caldwell Flowerland on Wednesday, sponsored by Bederson LLP Accountants and Advisors of West Orange and Fairfield and Lakeland Bank.

According to Bederson, more than 20 attorneys from the Essex County Bar Foundation attended the event.

“Our firm has been involved with the Essex County Bar Association for over 50 years,” said Tim King, partner at Bederson LLP. “Our firm works with attorneys to provide specialized accounting services needed in litigation. We are pleased to lend our support to their events and fundraisers.”

Gerald Jacob, a member of the Matrimony Lending Department at Lakeland Bank, said the company enjoys sponsoring events and supporting service attorneys.

Neil Kaplan, Esq., founder of Cork Counsel, and Charles Curtis, Master of Wine presented to the group. Curtis, one of only 40 Masters of Wine in the United States, explained how they advise and appraise wine collections.

“This is the perfect vehicle—to teach and network,” he said. “Plus, I need credits for presenting.”

Participating attorneys received continuing legal education (CLE) credits for participating in the presentation.

“Lawyers must know the value,” said Kaplan, who began his collaboration with Curtis more than a year ago. “The collections are appraised for transaction and insurance reasons, which require an expert level appraisal.”

Susan Wernick, chief marketing officer at Bederson, said the firm is proud to support the Essex County Bar Foundation, the people associated with it and the work that the foundation does.

“Last year, the family law section of the ECBA championed toy, food and other drives to benefit children and local neighbors in need during,” said Wernick. “We are happy to support their educational programming.”

Riker Danzig partner Sandra Fava, who also serves as chair of the Family Law Committee of the Essex County Bar Foundation, organized the event.

“The Bar Foundation is an association that values collegiality as well as personal and professional development,” said Fava.
