Essex County Synchroettes Recognized and More in Essex County News

West Orange, NJ – On Tuesday, April 16th, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and Orange Mayor Dwayne Warren toured the Orange Reservoir property in Essex County South Mountain Reservation to see the progress that is being made to develop the site for recreation opportunities, including picnicking, paddle boating, fishing, ice skating and hiking. Under construction is an open-air pavilion for picnics, a floating dock for paddle boating and upgrades to the Oakdale parking area. Credits: Essex County

West Orange, NJ – Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. recognized The Synchroettes during an awards program Tuesday, April 23 at Essex County Codey Arena. The Synchroettes are a skating team sponsored by the Essex Skating Club, and were Bronze  Medalists in the Leon Lurje Trophy competition in Gothenburg, Sweden, skating as members of the 2012-2013 Team USA and were the 2013 Eastern Sectional Champions. In February, the Synchroettes competed in the 2013 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Junior team are East Coast Champions and Juvenile and Novice teams are East Coast Bronze Medalists.

“As a former athlete, I know the commitment and dedication these young women invest to build strength, learn their routines and execute flawlessly. This season, they took their performance to an even higher level and displayed to the world the kind of talent that comes from Essex County,” DiVincenzo said. “What these athletes accomplished is truly amazing and brings international recognition to Essex County.” 

“We want to thank the County and Joe DiVincenzo for all they have done to support us. We are proud to represent the club and skate here at Essex County Codey Arena, which is one of the best facilities in the country,” said Synchroettes Coach Geri Lynch-Tomich.

The Synchroettes were selected by U.S. Figure Skating to participate with Team USA for the 2012-2013 season. In January, the team competed for the prestigious Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden, and received a bronze medal. In February, the Synchroettes competed in the 2013 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Junior team are East Coast Champions and Juvenile and Novice teams are East Coast Bronze Medalists.

The Synchroettes have skated since 2011, and a membership  of nearly 200 girls between the ages of 4 and 18.  They compete  on 11 teams ranging  from beginner to junior levels.

Team members are Sarah Bayless, Daphne Campbell,Megan Cox, Abigail DiTosto, Molly Farber, April Goldberg, Rebecca Haupt, Kelsey Jain, Danielle Kaiser, Brooke Klein, Emily Lemchuk, Jessica Lemchuk, Irene Petrocelli, Olivia Pilling, Imani Rickerby, Michelle Rose, Jacqueline Roth, Erica Silverman, Flora Sugarman and Ashley Tomich. Coaches are Geri Lynch-Tomich, Bobette Guerrieri and Kaleigh Corbett.
