CLIFTON, NJ — Senior quarterback Mason Murdock passed for three touchdowns to lead the West Orange football team to a 27-14 victory over Clifton in the final game of the Mountaineers' season Friday night.

After Clifton (4-2) took an 8-0 lead, West Orange (6-1) got on the board with a 24-yard field goal by Owen Murphy with 1:34 left in the first quarter.

The Mountaineers went ahead for good with 7:20 to go in the second quarter on Shaki Carson's 10-yard TD run around left end and Murphy's PAT for a 10-8 lead.

Carson scored on a spectacular play with 2:11 left in the second quarter when he took a screen pass from Murdock and went down the left sideline for a TD covering 65 yards and extending the West Orange lead to 17-8 at halftime.

Midway through the third quarter, Murdock connected with Stanford University-bound wide receiver Jayson Raines on a 5-yard TD pass on a fade to the back of the right corner of the end zone to extend the lead to 24-8. Another 24-yard field goal by Murphy put West Orange up, 27-8, with 7:53 left in the game.

West Orange finished the season with a six-game winning streak after losing their opener to the top-ranked team in New Jersey, St. Peter's Prep.
