WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Fire Department was still on the scene late Monday afternoon cleaning up after a structure fire on Harrison Avenue. 

The fire started at around 4 p.m. in a 2-1/2 story wood frame single-family house that was unoccupied at the time.  According to the West Orange Fire Department, the fire was visible on arrival coming from the kitchen window. Crews stretched lines and extinguished the fire within minutes.  

The fire was contained to the kitchen, however heavy smoke filled the rest of the house. The dwelling was under renovation. The fire was under control before 5:30 p.m. and an investigation is underway. 

There were no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries. Mutual aid from Montclair also was on the scene.​
