WEST ORANGE, NJ — A fire erupted in a home at 579 Valley Road near Freeman Street Monday evening. Despite having to evacuate the building of all on-duty firefighters, no injuries were reported after

Command on scene reported just after 6 p.m. that a heavy fire appeared at the private, single-family dwelling and requested Orange Fire Department’s Firefighter Assist and Search Team. East Orange, South Orange and other nearby departments were also requested for assistance.

It wasn’t until 10 p.m. that command reported the fire was under control.

The heaviest fire was initially knocked down, but reappeared in the attic of the home and all companies were ordered to evacuate the building. Conditions quickly deteriorated at the roof, which partially collapsed along with part of the interior of the first floor. 

Visible fire was knocked down, but smoke persisted until nearly 10 p.m.
