MORRISTOWN, NJ — The West Orange ice hockey team is off to a 2-0 start after weekend victories over Parsippany and Kearny.
Cameron Murphy racked up seven goals in the first two games. He scored a hat trick and West Orange erupted for six goals in the third period to finish off a 9-3 ice hockey victory over Parsippany Regional in the opening game of the season Friday night at Mennen Arena.
The game was deadlocked, 3-3, after two periods. The Mountaineers outscored Par Hills, 6-0, in the final period. Murphy had three goals and three assists.
Jack Olsen and Drew Palent scored two goals apiece and Etan Nativ and Calvin Tranquada scored one goal apiece in the victory. Olsen finished with three assists.
Jackson Pruksarnukul made 10 saves to record his first varsity win in goal for the Mountaineers.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers defeated Kearny, 4-1. Murphy accounted for all four goals as West Orange scored once in the first period, twice in the second and once in the third.
Palent had three assists against Kearny, and Pruksarnukul made 25 saves.
