MONTCLAIR, NJ – Legendary rocker Joe Walsh will return to his former hometown of Montclair for a benefit concert on October 3 in the Montclair High School Auditorium. A 1965 graduate of MHS, Walsh is returning to help raise funds for a library/media center renovation at the school.

According to the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence, tickets will go on sale September 1.

Born Joseph Fidler Walsh on November 20, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas, Walsh later moved with his family to Montclair, where he attended Montclair High and played oboe in the school band. He went on to attend Kent State University, later dropping out to pursue a career in music.

Walsh was a well-known member of several bands including the James Gang, The Party Boys, Barnstorm and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. He also worked as a solo artist before teaming up with the Eagles in 1975 as a guitarist and keyboardist. Although he continues to play with the Eagles, Walsh also tours as a solo artist.

In 2011, Rolling Stone named Walsh at number 54 of the list of ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.’

As a member of the Eagles, Walsh was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.

The Eagles are considered to be one of the most influential bands of the 1970s.

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
