LIVINGSTON, NJ – Technology and performing arts will combine to create a “one-of-a-kind show” in the Livingston Mall parking lot from June 1 to June 4 when “Cirque Italia,” the first traveling water circus, visits the township.

When Manuel Rebecchi, president and owner of Cirque Italia, and COO Chanté DeMoustes visited the Livingston Township Council meeting on Monday for the go-ahead to begin advertising the “Aquatic Spectacular” in Livingston, the mayor and council were thrilled to accommodate the traveling production.

“I think this sounds like a lot of fun and really terrific,” said Mayor Shawn Klein. “Hopefully you’ll think Livingston is a good market and come back again and again.”

According to DeMoustes, the European show carefully selected and united 22 the best acrobatic artists from all over the world, featuring acts from Russia to Mexico.

The custom-built stage, designed by Rebecchi and made by Ferrari, consists of 35,000 gallons of water and has a $500,000 digital water curtain that projects graphics and images while the performers complete their stunts. In response to council inquiries, DeMoustes said the water is bought from the township and recycled for the next show.

DeMoustes added that because Cirque Italia does not like to turn away guests, it offers multiple shows at each location that accommodate between 150-200 people each, which also alleviates any traffic or parking concerns. She also said the show intentionally keeps the noise under the decimal and the lighting centered down onto the tent so it does not affect the surrounding community.

“This is actually our first town in New Jersey,” she said. “We visit 88 locations a year and travel 45 weeks out of the year. We have an opportunity to go to the bigger towns, but we like to go to the suburbs [because] it’s families that come to this show.”

Described on the website as a “vivid, dramatic and moving experience under a customized traveling tent,” Cirque Italia presents a variety of acts including a futuristic laser act, aerial performances, contortionists, jugglers and more. Unique from other circus atmospheres, Cirque Italia has a strict animal-free policy and also does not allow fire acts or alcohol.

“This is not your general circus that rolls into town,” said DeMoustes. “This is very elite, elegant—we’re putting up basically a different image for a circus.”

Stating that this “romantic project” has become to be “known and acclaimed all over the world,” a press release encouraged Livingston-area residents not to miss the opportunity to “be amazed and transported to a fantastic realm where your deepest dreams can and will come true.”

“Whether it’s a futuristic laser act or mesmerizing aerial performances, the show has something for all tastes and expectations,” the release states. “One thing Cirque Italia sets out to accomplish is to create a type of world-class entertainment suitable for all age groups.”

Cirque Italia, which began in 2017, has sold out more than 90 percent of its shows since its inception. According to the press release, the stage alone is enough to amaze the most demanding audience.

Tickets can be purchased now starting at $10 to $50 depending on availability. Cirque Italia offers one free child admission with every full-priced paying adult ticket in levels two or three. This offer cannot be combined with any other offers, discounts or deals.

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
