WEST ORANGE, NJ — Following a motor vehicle stop on Northfield Avenue adjacent to Gregory Avenue when a West Orange police officer observed a male driver, later identified as Giuseppe Vece, operating a vehicle while utilizing a cell phone, the individual was found to have an active warrant out of the Essex County Sherriff’s Office, according to police.
According to repots, the officer informed the driver that he was being stopped for cell phone usage. The driver was able to provide the officer with a valid insurance card and a valid registration card for the vehicle. He did not have a driver’s license on him.
As the officer sent information to Info-Cop, “WANTED PERSON” appeared on the screen, according to police with a warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for Vece. He informed the officer that this was a customer car for an auto-repair shop he worked for in Verona, according to police. He parked the car on North Cobane Terrace, where it would be picked up by a co-worker.
He was taken into custody, and was issued summonses for illegal use of a hand-held telephone, and failure to possess a driver’s license.
