New West Orange High School Lacrosse Coach Named

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Rob McOmish, a West Orange resident and 2010 Hall of Fame member of the Montclair State University Athletic Hall of Fame, has been named as the new Head Lacrosse Coach at West Orange High School.

McOmish has a storied background in Soccer and Lacrosse. He has been the Boys Soccer Varsity Assistant Coach at Montclair High School for 11 years; the Boys Lacrosse Varsity Assistant Coach at Montclair High School for 9 years; and the Girls Soccer Varsity Assistant Coach for 3 years at MHS.  He also teaches Physical Education and Drivers Education full time at Montclair High School.

McOmish played semi-pro soccer for the Metrostars Farm Team, the NJ Imperials, and was named 1997 NJ Soccer Player of the year.  While at MSU, he played Lacrosse and Football in addition to Soccer.  He has a BA in Communications Studies and is currently working towards an MA in Coaching and Sports Administration.

Rob and his wife, Whitney, have two young daughters that attend Redwood Elementary, and a two month old. They are actively involved at Redwood, and also run a Soccer and Lacrosse camp for kids in Montclair.  You can view the website here: http://big5lax.com.

McOmish spoke enthusiastically about his plans to revamp and develop the West Orange High School Lacrosse program.  He hopes to have a 20 member Varsity team and a 20 member JV team.  He is currently developing training programs and systems for the teams.  In addition to the high school, summer Lacrosse camps and games are planned, and Mcomish will be working with the West Orange Recreation Department to help develop the sport of Lacrosse in town. It is also hoped that Lacrosse will be integrated into the West Orange Elementary School Physical Education curriculum, and that a Girls Lacrosse Team can be started at WOHS.

Mcomish looks forward to the changes that he can bring to the Lacrosse program at West Orange High School.
