WEST ORANGE, NJ - April is Distracted Driving Awareness month across the United States.  In recognition of this serious issue,  the Nikhil Badlani Foundation is sponsoring an artwork project for the children of West Orange which will be unveiled at the West Orange Public Library on April 14 at 3:00 pm.

The children's artwork,  according to the Foundation, is "an artistic illustration of what they see on the road."  Two local artists, Cindy Klein and Kim Scheib, oversaw the project.

According to distraction.gov, "more than nine people are killed and 1,060 more are injured every day in crashes that involve a distracted driver. Further, drivers who use mobile devices are four times more likely to get into injurious crashes, yet one third of drivers admit to texting and driving."

They go on to say that "Distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. In 2011 alone, over 3,000 people were killed in distracted driving crashes."

The Nikhil Badlani Foundation honors the memory of Nikhil Badlani, a talented musician, straight A student and loving son and friend, who died when a car failed to stop at a stop sign on Wyoming Avenue on June 11, 2011. They provide scholarships for music students and partner with organizations that encourage traffic safety and awareness.
