WEST ORANGE, NJ — There were no additional cases of COVID-19 reported in West Orange on Monday, according to Mayor Robert Parisi.

The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,276. Fourteen residents remained hospitalized and of them, three were in intensive care. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange remained at 156. There were 598 current active coronavirus cases in West Orange.

"Though this may be because several labs have closed for the holiday, we will not question this good news," Parisi said in a post on his Facebook page. "This is the first day since March 14 that there is not one new case to report."

Essex County reported a total of 17,248 cases of COVID-19 Monday, an increase of 34 overnight, with 32,896 negative test results. There have been 1,598 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.

In New Jersey, an additional 928 coronavirus cases Monday brought the total in the state to 155,092, according to the state Department of Health. The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized as of late Sunday was 2,755, 102 fewer than the day before.
