Opposition Expected At West Orange Board Of Education Meeting

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story stated that PASSE (Parents Advocating for Special Services in Education) members were encouraged to attend the Jan. 28 Board of Education meeting to express "opposition" over discrepancies in the district’s policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities. The email, which was sent to PASSE members, was encouraging parents to attend board of education meetings in general as one of many ways to advocate for their children, and not to attend the meeting in opposition. TheAlternativePress.com apologizes for the misunderstanding.

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange Board of Education Preliminary Agenda for the Monday, Jan. 28 meeting has been posted on the http://www.woboe.org website.  More attachments may be posted prior to the meeting, which will commence at 8 p.m. in the Library Media Center at West Orange High School.

Although the agenda reflects a basic administrative meeting, members of the community are planning to establish their own concerns. At the last BOE meeting two weeks ago, a group of residents held a candlelight vigil protesting against what they said was the inequity of the board when Sandra Mordecai was not elected as vice president. Efforts continue to hold another vigil at the Jan. 28 meeting, prior to the 8 p.m. start time.

In addition to this, another group of residents claiming that the district is attempting to oust current WOHS Varsity Football Coach John Jacob, has been rallying supporters to come out and speak on his behalf. The district recently posted all Fall coaching positions, internally and externally.

Most of the board meetings will now be held in the LMC at the high school, facilitating accessibility.

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
