Orange/West Orange UNICO Named “National Model Chapter”


SCOTTSDALE, AZ — UNICO National’s highest honor, Model Chapter of the Year, was recently awarded to the Orange/West Orange UNICO (O/WO UNICO) at the national convention in July at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ.

This award is a culmination of many hours of hard work by the chapter serving the residents of West Orange and Orange while promoting the values of "Service Above Self."

During the year, the O/WO UNICO chapter donated more than $35,000 in scholarships and to local and national causes, including building a “pocket park” at the Thomas Edison National Park in West Orange, the donation of two-way radios to the West Orange Community Response Team (CERT) and $10,000 in scholarships to West Orange High School students.

In addition, the chapter sponsored three area high school and college students who were awarded UNICO National Scholarships at the national convention.

UNICO stands for Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity and Opportunity. In addition to encouraging the ideal of “Service Above Self,” UNICO’s mission is to further the development the development of a better understanding and respect for each other; further the development of a desire to do things for others; and further the development of a better citizenship by community activity.
