PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Eagles have assigned Roseland native Kevin Monangai to the team’s practice squad following the Eagles' 26-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.

After signing a contact with the Eagles on Aug. 1, Monangai spent training camp and preseason with the team before being cut from the practice roster. The 5-foot-8, 205 pound running back played three preseason games with the Eagles, scoring one touchdown and rushed for 126 yards.

He attempted 21 carries, for an average of 6 yards per rush. His longest carry of the preseason was a 28-yard rush during a, 40-17, victory against the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 22. Monangai would also score his lone touchdown of the preseason in the same game.

After the Miami Dolphins singed undrafted free agent Raheem Mostert away from the Eagles, the fifth running back spot on the team’s roster became Monangai’s for the taking.

Monangai has enjoyed a successful career playing college football at Villanova, and will gain valuable NFL experience practicing with the Eagles.

In 45 career games with Villanova, Monangai rushed for 3,167 yards and ran in 29 touchdowns. He is coming off of a senior year in which he scored 12 touchdowns and rushed for 1,138 yards.

Before joining the Wildcats for the 2011 season, Monangai played at Seton Hall Prep for three seasons in high school.

Monangai set numerous records and helped his team to win two Super Essex Conference titles. He was named as the county player of the year and as a second-team All-State athlete in his senior season after he rushed 2,266 yards and scored 32 touchdowns.

He joined Seton Hall Prep for his sophomore year of high school and averaged 159.3 rushing yards per game and scored 61 touchdowns over the course of three seasons.

The Eagles 10-man practice roster now consisits of:

  • RB Kevin Monangai
  • NT Travis Raciti
  • LB Deontae Skinner
  • OL Brett Boyko
  • CB Randall Evans
  • OL Malcolm Bunche
  • WR Quron Pratt
  • S Ed Reynolds
  • DE Brian Mihalik
  • WR Freddie Martino

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
