Knowing that the proceeds support Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center (BHHPCC), should make enjoying the comics-hobby better than ever, according to a Barnabas representative.

Active since 2009, to-date, the charity has raised over $120,000 for the non-profit agency by selling comics, books, toys and related items. Proceeds have helped assist individuals and families dealing with life-limiting illnesses. Conceived by BHHPCC Volunteer Coordinator Spiro Ballas, the event has attracted area industry talent who often appear to sign autographs and give showcase their work.

“To every customer who has ever come to our event, to every comics creator and vendor who has appeared at the event, to all those who have volunteered, everyone who’s promoted us and everyone who has donated – thank you,” said Ballas. “I am ecstatic about the success of this effort and it is only because of all who have directly participated and engaged in this worthwhile cause that we have succeeded.”

Superheroes for Hospice is an on-going, comic book-themed, fundraising project for Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center. According to Barnabas, specially trained experts in end-of-life care provide comprehensive and compassionate medical, emotional and spiritual care at a time when it is needed most. The programs, which serve infants, children, adults and the elderly, “honor the individual choices and values of each patient and family,” while offering full access to the broad array of services provided by Barnabas Health.

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
