WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Nikhil Badlani Foundation is sponsoring The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting in West Orange on Sunday, December 9, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm.  The ceremony will be held in the Lake Room in the Toby Katz Center at 650 Pleasant Valley Way.   The Worldwide Candle Lighting honors the memory of children, siblings, and grandchildren who have died, but will never be forgotten.  Please plan to arrive by 6:45 pm and park by the tennis courts. Take the pathway to the Katz Center.

Please bring candles or battery operated candles if you have younger children - they are  safer.  There will be light refreshments after the ceremony.  Please bring your favorite baked goods and we will provide hot chocolate, coffee & tea.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting began in 1997 as an internet effort to unite family and friends around the globe to light candles for one hour in remembrance of loved children who have died. The candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time, creating a 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Hundreds of thousands of people worldwide honor beloved children in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries.

Nikhil was a talented, fun-loving, caring and compassionate 11 year old boy who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was eager to learn and always excelled in school. He was creative and expressed himself in music and theater. Most of all, his curiosity led him to constantly explore the world around him, always with a smile on his face. On June 11, 2011, Nikhil was killed in a tragic car accident when another driver ran a stop sign.

His friends and family remember Nikhil not just as a straight-A student and a gifted musician, but a loyal and loving young man, and one who was always ready and willing to help others. His smile was infectious, and his sweetness was remarkable. During the short time he was with us, Nikhil truly touched the hearts of everyone he met.

The mission of The Nikhil Badlani Foundation (the "Foundation") is to expand and enhance the lives of underserved children in West Orange, New Jersey, and neighboring communities through individualized lessons for talented musicians, scholarships for graduating seniors, and traffic safety awareness and education for all.
