Breast cancer is a disease that devastates families - striking regardless of color, age, whether rich or poor.
It doesn't play favorites and early detection and treatment are key for both women and men.
But did you know Jewish families are at an increased risk of both inherited Breast and Ovarian cancers?
Modern medicine has brought us near miracles. It's also brought us some of the most difficult decisions we'll ever have to face. Are we obliged to prolong life even at the cost of terrible suffering? Should we legalize the sale of organs, such as kidneys, to save the lives of transplant patients? May a woman with a multiple-fetus pregnancy opt for fetal reduction, thus forfeiting the lives of some to possibly save others? When it seems that every available option is morally questionable, how do we decide?
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Join Chabad of West Orange for a six-week course beginning Monday, Oct.28 (additional Mondays include Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Dec. 2 as we discuss medical ethics and issues.
The first session, which coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, promotes awareness about this important health issue of particular relevance to the Jewish community and potentially could save lives.
In fact, Chabad of West Orange has partnered with our local Susan G. Komen Foundation to further promote breast cancer awareness.Tina Jacobs, Director of Community Outreach of the Susan G. Komen, North Jersey Affiliate will be speaking that evening on the subject. She is also a breast cancer survivor.
The course takes place from 7:30-9 p.m. Cost is $90 and includes textbook and all materials.
The class features video testimonials and discussions on different topics over the course of the lessons.
In addition, Chabad of West Orange and Susan G. Komen will offer the Oct. 28 session free.
CME (medical - including nurses), CLE (lawyer) and CE (dentist) credits for completing this course.
