Tri-M Music Honor Society Inducts 67 from West Orange High School

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Sixty-seven students from theater, band, orchestra, marching band, glee club and choirs were inducted into the West Orange High School Tri-M Music Honor Society this month.

Tri-M Music Honor Society, formerly known as Modern Music Masters, is both a middle school and high school honor society and is a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). It recognizes students for their academic and musical achievements and to provides leadership and service opportunities to young musicians.

Each school has its own chapter, which is run by the students and supervised by an advisor or sponsor. There are approximately 6200 participating chapters internationally.

To be eligible for membership, a student must maintain a B-average in his or her music classes, a B-average in all of his or her academic courses, be presently enrolled in a music course at his or her school, and be recommended for membership by his or her school's music faculty.

Senior Ruth Mesfin opened the evening by singing "The Star Spangled Banner," followed by Tri-M Choral members singing the West Orange High School mater.

Tri-M Advisor John Hellyer welcomed family and friends and additional selections by students highlighted flute and orchestra:
