WEST ORANGE, NJ — Advanced Placement (AP) students at West Orange High School (WOHS) were recently honored at the 18th annual Advanced Placement Recognition Ceremony, which was broadcast locally on TV 36/45. The ceremony, which can be viewed in its entirety below, highlighted the academic accomplishments of students taking AP exams during the 2019-2020 school year.

AP students, who take courses geared for first-year college students, took a College Board AP exam in their subjects earlier this month. Students receive scores of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, with five being a perfect score. Many colleges offer course credit for students scoring 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam in that subject area.

Superintendent Dr. Scott Cascone, WOHS Principal Hayden Moore, Assistant Principal Annette Towson and several AP teachers appeared on screen to congratulate the students.

Daniel Feinblatt, Class Valedictorian for the WOHS Class of 2019, was named an AP National Scholar. The award is granted to students in the United States who achieve grades Granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. Feinblatt is currently double-majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at Duke University.

WOHS AP students, who are listed in the photo above, were recognized in the following categories:

1. Outstanding Academic Performance: recognizes students who received scores of 5 in one or more AP exams.  (West Orange High School created this recognition.)

2.  AP Scholar: Granted to students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

3.  AP Scholar with Honors: granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

4. AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams.

5. National AP Scholar: Granted to students in the United States who received an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

AP test scores have continued to improve at WOHS in recent years along with the number of students taking AP courses.
