WEST ORANGE, NJ — Six players from the West Orange baseball team received recognition when the Super Essex Conference recently announced its All-Liberty Division teams for the 2018 season.
Seniors Tyree Bradley and Chris Walker each were named to the First Team. Bradley batted .371 with five home runs, 22 RBI, 14 extra-base hits and a team-high 23 walks. Walker led the team in home runs with nine. He drove in 41 runs, scored 31 runs, batted .478 and, on the mound, struck out 59 batters in 37 1/3 innings, pitching to a 5-3 record with a 3.56 ERA.
West Orange, which finished with a 14-9 record, had two players named to the All-Liberty Division's Second Team, seniors Vincent DeSantis and Aaron Pureyer. DeSantis led the pitching staff with 63 strikeouts in 35 innings and had a 5-2 record on the mound. DeSantis also batted .324 and scored 33 runs. Pureyer had a .370 batting average with six extra-base hits and a team-leading 13 stolen bases.
Mountaineer seniors Kyle Bernokeits and Michael Giovine were each accorded All-Liberty Division Honorable Mention. Bernokeits led the pitching staff in victories with a 6-1 record. In 36 1/3 innings, he struck out 43, walked only 13 and had a 3.47 ERA. Giovine stole 10 bases and scored 18 runs.
