WEST ORANGE, NJ – A non-stop back-and-forth quarterfinal ECT matchup between the West Orange and Montclair girls basketball teams put the Lady Mountaineers in the semifinals on Saturday as they held on to win, 45-42.

West Orange’s Mya Bembry had 21 points, 13 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Nathali Simpson had 11 and Dawn Flood had eight points.

Montclair’s Alisa Wiggins had 19 points, 10 from free throws at the foul line. 16 of the Mountie’s points came at the free-throw line. Tahj Ballard chipped in nine points.

In another WOHS first, the third-seeded girls team moves on to the Essex County Tournament semifinals, where they will face off against second-seeded University on Feb. 22 at Weequahic in a game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
