The Columbia Cougars took a 4-1 win over the West Orange High School Varsity Girls Soccer team on Sept. 12.
The game started off in West Orange’s hands, with several strong shots on goal by Anabella Schuler. A turnover gave Columbia the chance to score their first goal. WOHS went on the defensive as they tried to keep possession, but were unable to quell the Cougars' momentum as two more goals were scored by the end of the first half.
The Mountaineers remained on the defensive in the second half, taking all available shots After excellent play by Maya Younker, the senior sustained a leg injury during the second half and was taken out of the game.
West Orange’s Samantha Herbert scored the only goal for the Mountaineers. After another goal by the Cougars, the final score was 4-1 in favor of Columbia, who made 16 shots on goal. West Orange High School Goalie Heidi Paulson had 12 saves.
West Orange Head Coach Lou Mignone said "the team has gotten off to a slow start, conceding goals they necessarily didn’t want to."
"We're hopeful for our next home game against Science Park on Monday," he continued.
