WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School girls wrestling team took second at the North Region Tournament on Sunday and will send two seniors to Atlantic City.

Sandy Guerrero (215 pounds) and Precious Opara (151 pounds) won the championship in their respective weight classes and will represent the team in the NJSIAA Individual State Wrestling Championships at the Boardwalk Hall Arena in Atlantic City from March 5 to March 7.

"It was a great day full of some worthy accomplishments for our program," said West Orange head coach Steve Zichella. "We are so proud of the girls."

The Mountaineers took second place overall behind High Point in a field that represents 172 schools. With 13 team members, West Orange had the largest complement of female wrestlers and competed in each of the 11 weight classes.

Although only the top three wrestlers advance to the individual championships, senior Daniela Tacuri (114 pounds) placed fourth, sophomore Esther Gratia (161 pounds) finished sixth and junior Jessica Welcome (143 pounds) was seventh.
