WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange High School girls tennis team rolled over Caldwell High School on Monday to improve their 5-5 record.
Junior Candis Ferrell said, “We pulled out a great win today and, with a little more practice, we will be a major team in the conference.”
Another junior, Bella Saba, said, “Understanding your opponents' pattern is a big part of the game and we did that well today.”
The Mountaineers dominated in singles play, with Dasha Temniy taking the win over Emily Shapiro, 6-2 and 6-2; Vidya Kanthan over Christina Porano, 6-4 and 6-0; and Candice Ferrell over Carla Ko, 8-6.
Christina Mills and Courtney Mcgrath also won their doubles match. It was clear that the Mountaineers put their best effort in to claim this victory. The Cougars team of Terranova/Walsh took the win over West Orange's Saba/Tang.
The girls recognize that they will need to project their strong points individually in order to improve their overall record significantly. Head coach Jay Gitter explains that the girls were prepared for today’s match and each girl, gave it their very best.
"Tennis is an individual sport based on doing your personal best and being confident in your skills," Gitter said. "Right now, our team is looking to win more."
The Lady Mountaineers will be back it to improve their record again Mount Saint Dominic on Oct. 1.
