WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange High School boys soccer team is currently ranked No. 13 in the state, according to NJ.com. Following their 2-0 win on Sept. 16 against Memorial, the Mountaineers are currently 2-0-2 with a 1-0 victory against Columbia, a scoreless game against Montclair, and a 1-1 tie against West Essex.
"The team had a great win against a tough Memorial team," said Head Coach Doug Nevins. "The defense and goalkeeper Paul Schuler were great again with another shutout and the offense had its best game of the year so far and created a lot of good chances scoring two."
This year's co-captains are Kennth Vaquiz (midfielder), Brent Lllewelyn (attacking midfielder), Paul Schuler (goalkeeper) and Josh Figueroa (center midfielder).
The boys headed into the regular season successfully winning their scrimmages. Several team members have been playing club soccer since the end of last season.
The co-captains agreed they wanted to recapture their division championship this year, win the county tournament and make it to the state semis or finals.
"The team is getting better every game," said Nevins.
The team takes on Millburn on Sept. 18 in an away game at 7:00 p.m.
