WEST ORANGE, NJ – The annual Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics and Science National Honor Societies at West Orange High School (WOHS) recently inducted its new members and presented cords to seniors graduating this week.

The evening’s guest speaker was Shira Rosenblum, a 2011 WOHS alumna and former Science National Honor Society co-president. Rosenbaum is currently workings towards a veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania after graduating summa cum laude from Rutgers University and spending a year researching an improved animal model for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. Her research was recently published and she plans to continue her research this summer.

Rosenblum shared how much work it takes to achieve her goals and credited the high school with establishing a solid educational foundational. As she concluded her speech, she encouraged students that it was alright to not know what they wanted to do right away.

“It is completely alright to not know what that is right now or what you want in life, but do not shy away from those things that make you happy and the things that stir a fire within you,” she said.
