WEST ORANGE, NJ – Nearly 120 West Orange High School Junior Air Force ROTC cadets led their peers in a Veterans Day Ceremony in front of the Conforti Avenue campus on Nov. 4.
As part of the ceremony, the cadets held a flag-raising and flag-folding ceremony featuring the national anthem.
"The West Orange High School AFJROTC conducted a ceremony on Nov. 4 to honor all those that have served in the United States Armed Forces," said Major Joseph Marchesini (USAF, Ret.). "The ceremony was entirely planned, coordinated and executed by second-year Cadet Gordon Schneider and third-year Cadet Gabrielle Petrucelli.”
According to Marchensini, the ceremony kicked off Mountaineer Squadron's month-long Salute to Service, which also includes a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. He explained that all cadets would do 22 pushups for 22 consecutive days to raise awareness for the 22 veterans that commit suicide every day and will also visit classrooms from active military and veterans to talk about their experiences.
