WEST ORANGE, NJ - Seventeen-year-old West Orange resident Brittani Hamlett, an accomplished archer, has been ranked thirty-third in the country for her age group after competitions at the 2014 Easton Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Nationals in Hamilton, Ohio.

Britanni competed in the cadet recurve women's division and shot a personal best score during the qualification rounds of competition.

"I felt strong and prepared this year," said Brittani. "I achieved my personal best during Nationals and I am very proud of that!"

For Brittani, competing at such an elite level is a year-round commitment. She practices every week and travels to tournaments on a regular basis to compete on state and national levels. Last year, she traveled to Sturbridge, Massachussetts to compete in the Indoor Nationals.

She trains with Olympic Coach Michael Usherenko and practices in the field on Cherry Lane in West Orange across from McCloones (when they are not using it for zoo overflow parking) and at an indoor range in Florham Park.

Hamlett's love of archery actually began in a gym class at Liberty Middle School. Olympic Recurve Archery is not currently offered at West Orange High School, so Brittani has honed her skills and developed into a nationally- ranked champion with the help of her family and Archery Clubs. Plans beyond high school depend on whether or not the college she attends has a competetive archery team. Hamlett will be heading into her senior year at West Orange High School and wants to study Criminal Justice in college.

Brittani is also a level one Archery Coach and teaches classes on occasion. In her spare time, she hangs out with her friends, many of whom are also part of her Archery Club. She and her family attend The Episcopal Church of St. Andrew and Holy Communion in South Orange.

Brittani's next big competition is the New Jersey State Outdoor Championship which will be held in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield September 6-7. After the Championship the outdoor season ends for the east coast shooters and all competitions are held indoors at Archery ranges.

For a few days, rumors spread that Game of Thrones will not return for its final season until April 2019, and while it was clarified that the April return date was likely a false rumor, HBO ...

Paterson Firefighter Opens Up About Struggles, Urges Others not to Suffer in Silence

February 8, 2018

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Not a week goes by when a tale of heroism and bravery on the part of firefighters is not told. For them, running into a burning building is as natural as running out of one is for the rest of us.

That became apparent again on Monday when members of the Paterson Fire Department responded to a fire at 268 Main Street, which led to the eventual total collapse of ...
