WEST ORANGE, NJ - Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Vena today released the written dismissal of West Orange mayoral hopeful Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.'s challenge against petitions filed by the Township Clerk on behalf of Mayor Robert Parisi.
The matter did NOT come to a close, however, as Hawkins' father, Eldridge Hawkins, Sr., took the complaint to the next level and filed paperwork in Appellate Court at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The matter remains in litigation, and Tap into West Orange was unable to secure comments from either side. In addition, it has not yet been determined as to whether the Apellate Court will hear the complaint, which challenged 75 of 283 signature petitions filed by Parisi to be placed on the ballot in the Nov. 5 election for Mayor.
On Sept. 9. West Orange Township Clerk Karen Carnevale requested approval from the council for representation based on Hawkins' claims. Thomas P. Scrivo, Esq. was retained on Carnevale's behalf at a cost of $200 per hour.Parisi was forced to hire legal representation at his own expense.
Tap into West Orange will provide updates as they become available.
