WEST ORANGE, NJ — During a ceremony held on at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, the West Orange Police Department recently celebrated the promotions of three officers, who were officially sworn in by Mayor Robert Parisi with respective family members holding the bible.

West Orange Police Chief James Abbott is pictured above with the promoted officers, including (left to right):

  • Captain Michael Keighter, promoted to Deputy Chief;
  • Lieutenant John Connolly, promoted to Captain; and
  • Officer Jeffrey Krimmel, promoted to Sergeant.

In other West Orange police news, members of the department recently took part in community outreach as part of the “Coffee with a Cop” program by holding a local event at the Dunkin Donuts on Northfield Avenue.

Sgt. Brad Squires, Officer Herbert Granados, business owner Adam Goldman, Lt. Patrick Matullo, Officer Frank Romayo and Officer Scott Smarsh were on hand to listen to problems and address concerns over a cup of coffee with members of the public.

The national “Coffee With a Cop” initiative is an informal way for people to meet with police officers to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. The motto of the program is “Building relationships. One cup at a time.”
