West Orange Police Capture Suspects in Armed Robberies and Release Photo of Suspect On the Run

August 15, 2013 at 6:50 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange Public Information Officer Jessica Glicker has released information from the West Orange Police Department regarding the arrests of multiple suspects in various robberies throughout the township.

A total of three cases were solved by the work of the WOPD.

According to Glicker: "In the first case, one West Orange resident was arrested for an August 6, 2013 robbery that occurred at Watchung Avenue and Condit Lane. The victim was approached by two suspects, who then robbed him at gunpoint. Through a photo lineup the victim identified the suspects as Darius Faison, 19, and Cletus Honore, 21. Honore was taken into custody on August 8, 2013 and charged with armed robbery and possession of a handgun, among other charges. Police are searching for Faison, who is still at-large."

A photo of Darius Faison is attached to this article.  If any members of the community have information regarding the whereabouts of Faison, please contact the West Orange Police Department Detective Bureau at (973) 325-4020.

The West Orange Police Department also solved a carjacking case which occurred August 9 in the Essex Green shopping plaza outside Panera Bread.

Glicker continued, "The victim was approached by a male with a handgun outside of Panera Bread and ordered to lie down on the ground as the suspect took his keys and stole the victim’s BMW. The suspect fled the scene in tandem with an SUV, which was determined to have been stolen out of Orange. Soon after leaving the scene, a Federal Air Marshall observed the suspect switching cars with the SUV driver.

Four West Orange police officers were injured during a high speed pursuit that ensued through the town. The stolen SUV first crashed into a police car occupied by one officer, and crashed a second time into an unmarked West Orange police vehicle occupied by two police detectives. After crashing into another car, the suspect fled the crash scene and was quickly captured during a foot pursuit. A fourth police officer was injured during the foot pursuit.

The suspect, Charles Bracy, 24, of Orange, was caught and arrested in Orange. Police recovered a semi-automatic loaded hand gun at the scene. Bracy was taken into custody and charged with carjacking, unlawful possession of a handgun and aggravated assault, among other charges. A record check revealed he had warrants out for his arrest in Union City for unrelated incidents. The suspect driving the stolen BMW is still at-large."

As reported in the Alternate Press, three suspects were apprehended after an armed robbery at Colgate Park on August 14, 2013. The victim, who had his IPhone and $66.00 stolen, was robbed at gunpoint by the three suspects, who then fled.  The victim and his friend were able to describe the three individuals to police, who were able to locate and capture them in Orange.

Glicker noted "Shaquille Phelps, 19, of West Orange, was charged with one count of obstruction by flight. The names of the other two suspects who committed the robbery are not being released because they are juveniles."

“Our police officers have an exemplary work ethic and a deep commitment to protecting our community,” said Police Chief James P. Abbott.“It’s evident that our police department is doing an excellent job investigating and closing criminal cases occurring in town,” Mayor Robert D. Parisi said. “Unfortunately, there are bad people who do bad things in every town in this country. Though West Orange is not an exception, we are lucky to have a police force that is diligent in the pursuit of justice.”

Going for Brass

I get all teary-eyed watching the Olympics on TV.  You  know, the human drama, the sacrifice, the dedication, the thrill of competition, the athletic lip sync murmur to the national anthem on the podium.

This year I discovered that there are many other Olympic champions besides the usual cadre of spring-wound gymnastic pixies and ferociously wedged, hairless swimmers ...

The Dirty Dozen, Less One

I recently experienced something of a meltdown in the egg aisle at the supermarket over which kind of eggs to buy.  After much consideration, I finally settled on the eggs I wanted (organic, free-range, and cage-free), when I discovered another problem.

The next time I opened an egg carton at the store, there was an egg missing.

Having been the victim of covert cracked eggs in the ...
