WEST ORANGE, NJ -  Teen Anime Art Contest at West Orange Public Library Open for Submissions

If you’re a teen who draws your own manga, writes your own comics, or simply loves anime and wants to try your hand at creating your own art work, this is the contest for you. Students between the grades of 6-12 can submit their own original anime, manga, or comics-inspired art work for a chance at a gift card to a local art supply store and to have their work displayed in the library.
Guidelines for Contest Entries:
 Contest is open to teens in grades 6-12 who have a West Orange Library card and who have the written permission of a parent or guardian.
 Submissions are due at February’s Anime Club meeting, held on February 27, 2013 in the West Orange Public Library at 7:00 p.m. Bring this completed entry form and the original copy of your work.

 Entries must be submitted in person at February’s Anime Club meeting. If an entrant cannot attend the meeting, contact a librarian in the youth services department and turn your entry in earlier.
 Entries must be the original creations of the contestant (no characters or scenes from any published manga, animes or comics). Copy-written materials may not be submitted.
 Entries must fit on one sheet of 8.5 by 11-inch paper (one standard printer sheet).
 Entries must be in the style of manga, anime, or comic books and can depict a single scene, a single character, or tell a one-page story.
 Entries will be displayed in the library from March 1, 2013 until March 25, 2013 and the winner will be chosen based on votes cast by library patrons. The winner will be announced at the March 27, 2013 meeting of the Anime Club.
 The winning piece(s) will become the property of the West Orange Library and will be displayed in the library.
 Entries will not be returned.
 The winner will receive a $35 gift card and a runner-up will receive a $15 gift card to Jerry’s Artist Outlet, located at 495 Prospect Ave. in West Orange, NJ.
 Parents or guardians must sign the entry form for a teen’s work to be qualified for the contest.
Contest entry forms are available at the Library, or contact Youth Services Librarian John Arthur at

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
